Hemony carillon

The wealth in the Golden Age enabled the Municipality of Enkhuizen to purchase a precious Hemony carillon twice. In 1648 the Zuider- or Sint Pancrastoren received a Hemony carillon.

The Drommedaris was raised from 1648 and made suitable for the installation of the second Hemony carillon in 1677. François and Pieter Hemony were famous bell founders. They were the first, and for a long time the only ones, able to compose a melodious series of bells. Amsterdam, Utrecht and Enkhuizen are the only cities in the world where one can find several of these historically valuable carillons.

The Zuidertoren carillon currently consists of 52 bells, the lighter Drommedaris carillon of 44 bells. Both carillons are played all year round by the city carillonneur, Zuidertoren: Wednesday 11:00-12:00, Friday 18:30-19:30; Drommedaris: Thursday 12:00-13:00. Carillon concerts From 18 June to 20 August every Tuesday 20:00-21:00: carillon concerts on one of the two carillons.
