Nutszaal

This special concert hall originated from the activities of the Maatschappij tot Nut van het Algemeen, founded in 1784. This association of wealthy people aimed to bring ordinary people into contact with general development and to introduce them to art and culture.

In many Dutch cities and towns such a department of “Het Nut” was founded. Including in Enkhuizen of course, in 1802. A Nuts nursery school, a Nuts library and a Nuts savings bank were established, for example. The concert hall, or Nutszaal, is also a direct result of this Maatschappij. The building dates from the mid-19th century and is praised for its exceptionally good acoustics! The Nutszaal is located at the parking lot behind the Hema in Enkhuizen.
