Joost Botman in search of the real Johnny Cash

In the 50s and 60s Johnny Cash realized his own American dream. He worked his way up from cotton picker’s son to a superstar with his own TV show. He was a real storyteller, with his songs he proclaimed a message, but he didn’t always take the truth very seriously.

Joost Botman delves into the history of ‘the Man in Black’. A history full of contradictions: drug smuggling, religion, patriotism and alcohol abuse, a family man with a fascination for prison life. In Joost’s new program he takes the audience along in a moving and sometimes dryly comical story about this special singer with the characteristic dark brown voice.

Cash’s life passes by in twenty songs. In between songs, Joost tells about the extraordinary life of Cash, one of the greatest icons in American music history.

Joost Botman is a guitarist and singer. Cash’s songs fit perfectly with his warm voice. Joost toured the country for five years with a music theatre programme about Simon and Garfunkel. He is a captivating storyteller with a completely unique, dryly comical delivery. In the programme What is Truth, Joost is accompanied by guitarist Jos Kolenberg.
