Open Monumentendag

In 2024, Open Monument Day will take place on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 September. During this special weekend, thousands of monuments throughout the Netherlands open their doors to the public for free. This year’s theme is ‘Routes, Networks and Connections’.

This year they are using the slogan ‘on the way!’. En route refers to being on a journey from A to B, literally being in motion and the transformation from old to new, past to present. Along the way you travel via (historical) routes, you meet people you connect with and you are part of different networks. En route! also refers to the Open Monument Day weekend where visitors go from monument to monument. This year it is also about the journey between the destinations and the way you visit the monuments.
