Expositie Kruisweg

The Way of the Cross (Via crucis in Latin) is part of the tradition of the ascent to Easter. Pilgrims walked the same path as Jesus, the Via Dolorosa (Agony). From the 12th century onwards, more and more churches imitated the Way of the Cross in the form of sculptures or paintings that people could walk past. Traditionally this happens on Good Friday.

The Way of the Cross offers the opportunity to reflect on what Jesus experienced in the last hours of his life on earth, from his condemnation by Pontius Pilate to his death on the hill of Golgotha. Since the last century, a fifteenth station has been added to the series: the Easter Station, which is dedicated to the resurrection. The illustration above this text is part of the Easter Station by Tanja Minks.

    The artist

Tanja Minks completed a three-year art course in 2010. She considers it an honor that her Stations of the Cross can be seen in the Zuiderkerk and tells about herself: “I paint with oil paint, abstracted, expressive representations and exhibit regularly. My work is about the indeterminate, the elusive.”
