In 2025, the 50th edition of the Enkhuizer Klipperrace will be held from 9 to 12 October. On the occasion of this anniversary, extra activities will be organised. More information about this will follow soon!

The first Enkhuizer Clipper Race

At the first Enkhuizer Klipperrace in 1975, ten participants appeared at the start, a number that quickly grew afterwards. In the heyday, this was 55 ships. The Klipperrace is still a concept in sailing. It is one of the most spectacular and professional sailing races with traditional inland vessels, not only from the IJsselmeer ports and Friesland, but also from Groningen and Overijssel.

Competition

The race itself consists of two races. On Saturday, the famous Three Cities Race is sailed. This race starts with the spectacular anchor start in the Krabbersgat near Enkhuizen. Then, two of the three designated buoys must be rounded. These buoys are located at Medemblik, Stavoren and Urk. The finish is again in the Krabbersgat.

On Sunday a trapezium course is sailed. The two classes start directly after each other and the courses partly merge into each other, so that the field stays together well throughout the race to let the participants experience a great competition. This year the 50th Enkhuizer Klipperrace will take place. This time it will be organized from 9 to 12 October 2025.
