De Librije
The Netherlands has only one seventeenth-century city library that has been preserved at its original location. That is the Librije van Enkhuizen. This historic public library has retained its own unique character. In the Librije at the south portal of the Westerkerk you imagine yourself in the Golden Age.
The history of the Librije in Enkhuizen goes back to the end of the sixteenth century, although not much has been preserved about its exact origin. In the nineteenth century, the Librije fell into oblivion, but around the turn of the twentieth century it was more or less rediscovered as a monument to science and history.
Guided tours by appointment
During the summer opening of the Westerkerk, the Librije can be visited by appointment from Tuesday to Saturday.
